Categories of Membership

Affiliate

Those who are current members of BAIML and are registered for the IML scheme and have undergone little or no training.  (They may not use the title IML, wear the badge or use the Association name or logo on promotional material.  They are not entitled to a carnet.)

Aspirant IML

Those who are current members of BAIML and have attended the IML training course and are gaining further experience working with an IML. (They may not use the title IML, wear the badge or use the Association name or logo on promotional material.  They are entitled to be issued with a membership card clearly indicating their status as an Aspirant IML)

Aspirant IML [Non-Active]

An Aspirant Member who signs a declaration stating that they are not going to work or give advice as an Aspirant IML.

Full Member or IML

Those who are current members of BAIML and who have completed the training and assessment process and have been awarded the International Mountain Leader Carnet. (They may use the title IML, wear the badge and use the Association name or logo on promotional material subject to the BAIML rules for the use of badge and logo.)

Full Member [Non-Active]

A Full Member who signs a declaration stating that they are not going to work or give advice as an IML. They can still wear badges and use logos. They are only issued with a membership card.

Retired IML

Those IMLs who are current members of BAIML and have decided to give up mountain leading permanently but wish to remain members of the Association. (They may wear the badge in order to promote the Association; it must not be worn when active in the mountains but it would be appropriate to wear at meetings and functions if desired. They are entitled to be issued with a membership card clearly indicating their status as a Retired IML)

Honorary Member

A person of standing within the outdoor community who is invited to join BAIML in recognition of their contribution to the field in which our Association works.

Life Member

A Full Member of BAIML who is elected to Life Membership by an Annual General Meeting in recognition of their contribution to the Association.

Voting Members

Those who are current members of BAIML and who have completed the training and assessment process and have been awarded the International Mountain Leader qualification (Full Members or IMLs)
