  • Full and Aspirant Members may not subscribe at the Affiliate rate on the grounds that they are not currently active in the mountains.
  • Members who subscribe at a rate incompatible with their training or assessment will be treated as lapsed members

Keep your details up to date

Please keep your details up to date, especially your address and telephone numbers. In the first instance these should be sent to the BAIML Office, either in writing or by email. The information will then be passed on to the Membership Secretary. Please keep your email address updated in your profile, as all emails will be sent via the website.

Upgrading Membership

When you are upgrading your membership, you need to complete an upgrading form and attach a passport photo with your name written on the back. If you are upgrading from Affiliate to Aspirant, or Aspirant to Full Member and you have already paid your subscription for the current year, then you need to pay the appropriate upgrading fee as shown above.

Replacement Carnet

If you require a new Carnet, please send a cheque and your Carnet number to BAIML at the MLTUK.

Lapse of Membership and late application for Membership

Lapse of membership will be deemed to have occurred when any member's subscription remains unpaid for eight weeks after the agreed date of payment. Renewal of lapsed membership will be considered by the Committee of the Association when a member applies and is prepared to pay all outstanding dues. Members who renew their subscription after 26th February  will be liable to a late payment fee as shown above. The lapsed member must satisfy the Committee that they can still meet the requirements as laid down by the UIMLA, which will take the form of scrutiny of the lapsed member’s log book in the first instance and may involve practical re-assessment courses.
Applications from those who have satisfied the requirements laid down by the UIMLA more than one calendar year previously must demonstrate that they can still meet these requirements, which will take place on re-assessment day or multi-day courses.
Each case will be judged separately. The re-assessment courses will be paid for by the lapsed member. In both situations the Committee shall take into account the length of time involved; whether the lapsed member or applicant is or has been a member of another country's IML Association and, if so, for how long; and the extent to which they have been actively involved in leading parties in the mountains. Those who hold current IML association membership of a Full Member state of UIMLA will normally be given automatic entry into BAIML at the appropriate level.

Applying for membership

In order to ease the membership application and renewal process, applications from new and renewing members will be accepted from 1st December, and for new half year applications from 1st June annually.
